Thoughts and Advice From an Old Cattleman – Gordon Hazard ‘s Book

About Gordon Hazard’s Book:

Gordon Hazard ’s easy-going writing style makes it feel as though he is lean- ing on the fence, giving you ideas and advice right on the farm. Gordon owns and operates Hazard Cattle Company with his son Mark. After reading this book, you can see how a good business plan can be laid out. Dr. Hazard, at age 86, manages his 1800 steers on over 3000 acres with one part-time hired hand. His system has been developed to allow cattle, grass and time to do most of the work. He also explains and lays out the plan you need to prosper with stocker cattle, no matter the market. It’s a book that I find myself reading again and again. Gordon Hazard ‘s book should be read by everyone that manages livestock, no questions asked.

WHAT A TREAT. ALMOST 100 YRS OF WISDOM AND STILL SO SHARP
    THANKS FOR THIS INTERVIEW
JUST A SIDE NOTE IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT HE STILL RUNS 1800 HEAD BY HIMSELF
AT 90 YRS OLD HES GREAT

Rowdy, glad you enjoyed the interview! Gordon has the help of his son, Mark now. He doesn’t manage all 1800 head by himself all though that would be an accomplishment. I’m sure he was probably doing it alone in his 80′s.

Chris, I just finished listening to your interview with Jadk and came straight to your web site. Your interview with Jack was great. Likewise, this interview with Mr. Gordon is amazing. He reminded me of my late grandfather (1919 – 2010) who was also a rancher, got started renting land, had a side business, kept different bank accounts for his business and his ranch, which he bought after seevral years (3750 acres in the Coahuila, MX desert). Truly distilled pearls of wisdom from Mr. Gordon.

      Jose,

Thank you for your kind words. It was an honor to have Gordon on the show! Seems like financial responsibility was a trait many people of that generation had for obvious reasons. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
