I wasn’t always a leader in the Regenerative Agriculture world.
In fact, the first time I started grazing livestock; cattle, poultry and pigs, I failed miserably! …
I couldn’t even setup a simple electric fence or move my livestock from one pasture to another.
The electric fencing didn’t work, it got tangled, shorted out and all my cows ended up on the road and on the neighbors property.

The intelligent farmer / rancher, no matter his/her age, will always learn from their peers. At least that is what I have observed.
Ok let’s get into Strategy #2...
The Most Successful Farmers & Ranchers Are "Action Takers"
We all know the academic types who could tell you everything you’d ever want to know about a subject.
But, when you ask them about their real world, “boots on the ground” experience, they suddenly fall silent.
And, just like anyone else, we can fall victim to this type of learning as well.
It was Aristotle who said it best thousands of years ago, “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.”
What Aristotle is trying to say is that the most successful producers in our field are the ones who are always learning, but more importantly, are taking action on what they have learned.
Of course, every single subject in a book can’t be directly applied to our farm/ranch, but I think you’ll agree that the principles, or the manner in which the author thinks is what we can truly place value in.
When we attend an event, conference or bring a consultant to our property, that is what we are doing. We’re looking for a different perspective.
That is where the value really is.

They Are "Speed Learners"
As we just learned in Strategy #2, the most successful farmers and ranchers are action takers. And, before you can take action on new ideas or principles, you need to learn about them first.
The historical way of doing that is by reading, something we all know.
But... I’ve come to the conclusion that learning by listening to people speak, in an audio format, is not only more effective for retaining knowledge, but it’s also more exciting and fun!
There’s something about hearing a person’s voice when absorbing what they have to teach.
They’ll emphasize certain words, while down-playing others.
